Pandemic Haikus
Oct. 2020
In my sleeping room
All the clothes in my closets
are laughing at me.
Downstairs in this house
dogs draped over everywhere
wait for the next thing.
In the great outdoors
Golden aspens take the view
Compost calls to All.
Forest trail lit up
Drop to my knees, worshipping
While confetti falls.
Back at the garden
Early seeds and final bees
Drawstrings of autumn.
Feel the whole moment
Just this just this just
Dismantling everything.
There is no death here
Decomposting, regrowing
The forest laughs on
Smell time, animal
Remember, you never left
Always, this body.
Strolling in mornings
My prayer of the loving gaze
Kissing every tree.
Martyr means witness
We’re all so bent and done-in
Seams coming apart.
Autumn time of leaf
shine, golden against colbalt
Precious perfect Now.
I sit in the woods
Writing poetry in leaves
Ignoring the news.
Rotting on the ground
Compost for future beings
And the world still turns.
Life continues on
Good as scent of fallen rot
Sweetness of karma.
The distance we’ve come.
Shhhh, the forest never knew
All that humans lost.
After-Election Haikus
Nov. 2020
Better to be a
bird watcher than a
poll watcher these days.
As leaves turn golden
The White House sickens and burns
Before the world can.
We’re all gonna die
But if the killers go first
More life left for us.
While he says ‘no masks’
Seven million infected
Then everything changes.
Funny thing happened
On the way to the election
A real switcheroo!
We dance in the streets
Or the forests for this dyke
Liberation comes!
The empire’s rotting
We three watch from beauty’s womb
Drunk with happiness.
As fires still rage
Truth is, the Mother bats last
trump losing his shit.
His guys all fall down
trumpolini’s furious
we fall up, laughing.
Fascists losing now
The ancient battle calls us
And so we rise up.
Enlightenment is
Cooperation with the
Inevitable
Meeting this moment
A tender yes of kindness
To the life that’s here.
Votegasm coming
Biden and Harris did it!
